About Shasta Symphony Orchestra
Originally founded in 1950, the Shasta Symphony Orchestra (SSO) merged with the Simpson Sinfonia Orchestra in 2010. The name “Shasta Symphony” was retained because of the regional significance of the word “Shasta” and because of our mission to reach the players and audience of Shasta County.
The SSO has three main objectives:
Serve the educational needs of the students of Simpson University and Shasta College
Provide a place where skilled community musicians can continue to use and develop their talents
Present quality, artistically enriching concerts to the general public.
The orchestra is made up exclusively of volunteer musicians, with the exception of the concertmaster and conductor, and includes players in all seasons of life, from high school to retirement.
