Pianist Ian Scarfe will anchor the SSO’s winter concert, with the fabulous piano concerto #17 by Mozart. Also featured will be Celeste Pena, the co-winner of the 2017 student aria competition. Other works will include Dvorak’s Overture to Vanda, Op 25, conducted by Dr. Matthew Brooks, and Dvorak’s Serenade in D minor, Op. 44.
Ian Scarfe enjoys a busy career as a piano soloist and a collaborative pianist. Though based primarily in the San Francisco Bay-Area, he completes several concert tours each year, which take him across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Recent appearances include the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and venues in Alaska, Florida, Ontario, Switzerland, France, Portugal, and Italy. He is a founding member of the Vinifera Trio, a violin-clarinet-piano ensemble based in California’s wine-country, and the Zurich Beethoven Trio, based in Zurich, Switzerland. He is the founder and director of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, which presents annual retreats and concert tours in and around scenic Trinity County in North State California. Now in its eighth season, this festival has presented over 200 concerts and educational programs across the western United States.
